How to use Asana for Your Personal Life
I talk a lot about how beneficial Asana is for running your business, but today I wanted to let you in on how much it can help your personal life too by giving you some examples.
My specialty is helping you use and optimize the free version of Asana, so everything in this post and on my website to date can be done using the free plan.
You can really do so much with the free version. It's one of the reasons I love Asana so much. The free plan goes so much farther than any other tool I've tried. Asana is just the best. It's simple to use, but powerful enough to run your entire life.

Here are 5 ways you can use Asana in your personal life:
1) Habit Tracker
This is a really great way to stay on top of things you want to do or to create new habits. You can use Asana's recurring tasks feature in a calendar view to accomplish a visual habit tracker. You can use colours to colour-code different types of habits. It provides a great incentive to not break the chain and stick with the habit you're trying to create.
2) Travel Planning
I like to keep a template for this one that I can reuse every time I'm planning a vacation.

So, for travel planning, you can keep track of all important information for your trip right within your Asana project.
When the time comes to actually head to the airport or check in to your hotel, instead of sifting through your emails for the confirmation you received months ago, you can just open up your Asana travel planning template and have the information in seconds!
You can also have your to-do list for all the things you need to look into and book. You can keep track of all the activities you want to do on your vacation. And one of the best time-savers of all is the packing list!
Keep a template of your packing list so you don't have to recreate it every time. Seriously, what a game-changer.
3) Christmas Planning
Keep track of relevant information, like your budget, how much you've spent, all of your plans for the holidays. Have a convenient list of all the things you need to do to prepare, like buy gifts and send out cards.
You can also have a gift list for all the people you need to buy for in the project, so you don't forget about anyone and so that you can easily see who you haven't bought a gift for yet, as well as any gift ideas you have for them.
Pro tip - I actually come back to these lists often throughout the year and note any ideas I've had or if someone mentions something they might want. It makes it so much easier to buy gifts when the time comes!
4) Special Occasions
In this project, you have a place to keep track of all special occasions, such as holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries.
You can set them up to remind you before or on the day of the occasion. You can set reminders to buy gifts or whatever is helpful for you for that special occasion.
5) Personal General
This is the general area where you can put really whatever you want. Anything that doesn't belong in another project, any one-off tasks or general recurring tasks. Examples of what you can store here are:
Appointment reminders.
Personal information you want quick access to. For example, I use mine to keep track of all my daughter's specialists - she has quite the list and it's easy to lose track otherwise. I used to have to always google phone numbers and try to remember the doctors’ names. Now, I have a centralized place to go and quickly have the information I need.
Lists that you want to remember. For example, I keep a hurricane prep list in here. We're still pretty new to the whole hurricane thing, so having this list is very helpful.
Any future tasks you want to do and don't want to forget about.
Future purchases you want to make for your home. These add up, so if you can't get everything you want when you want it, it's helpful to have a list to go back to when you find you have some money to spend on the home.
