How to know which tasks to give to a virtual assistant
Delegating is one of the hardest things to do, so if you're struggling with deciding what tasks to give your new team member, that's totally understandable!
I've witnessed first-hand how much of a struggle it can be. Whenever I work with a new client, one of the first things we often work on is delegation strategies. Often, they've waited too long to hire a VA to take over some work and they are drowning in administrative tasks that they don't need to be and don't want to be doing. Or sometimes they have hired a VA already, but aren't effectively using their services.
In this post, I will help you figure out which tasks to delegate to your VA and tips on getting started!

Deciding what to Delegate
Here are a few tips I give to my clients to help them know which tasks to delegate:
If you're not the best at it, you should delegate it. If you're not the best at creating graphics, you should hire a graphic designer. If you're not the best at writing your thoughts, you should hire a copywriter. And so on!
If it takes too much time for you to do, you should delegate it. Why pay yourself top-dollar to do the tedious, time-consuming tasks when you can outsource them? You are the most expensive member of your team. Remember that.
If it's not a needle-mover, you should delegate it. As the CEO of your business, you should spend your energy on tasks that will move your business forward. Let someone else manage the day-to-day of your projects, set up a project management software, etc. so you have time for the parts you NEED to be doing.
Overall, I believe you should do what you're best at or do the tasks that fill you with purpose and passion. If something doesn't align with that, you should delegate it to the right person who does feel passionate about it. That'll make your business more successful since everything will be done by the right person with the right motivation and using the time more effectively.
If this all sounds overwhelming to you, this is just a sample of what I can help you with through my back-pocket mentoring services. Getting Started with a VA
Once you have determined which tasks you will delegate and you are ready to bring on your new team member, here are some tips for getting started:
Have at least a few tasks planned to start with. Having a plan makes everything flow better. Write out a list of possible tasks and then discuss with the person you hire and go from there.
Explain how you want it done, but be open-minded. If you already have a system that works, show it! But always be open-minded about how your team member goes about it, as sometimes they can come up with ideas that'll make the workflow more effective.
Give clear feedback. Don't be afraid to give helpful feedback! Explain what you like, what you don't, how you would make things different, etc. Open communication is key!!
Trust and relax. The key factor of delegating (that a lot of people forget) is that it's supposed to free up your time AND your mind. Don't let it stress you out or take up that precious mental space! Trust that you hired the right person and learn to let go.
And that's it! It's a process that takes some time but at the end is so so worth it!
